GAME CHANGE: Container Crews Now Going Live Started by: Squishy on Sep 15, '16 12:29

We are going ahead with container crews to ensure that there are new jobs at all times.  We will start reducing the number of container crews down once we can maintain a constant 24/7 job coverage.

What is a container crew?

It is a crew run by volunteers who house and train users until such time that the other crews in the game can take them in as part of the family.  Each container crew will be allowed to have 1 sponsor from each existing family to be in their crew so that they can show the rops to new associates they draft in, and, when their leader auths future spaces, the sponsor and associates can integrate into the new family.

Being in a container crew has its down sides, there is a strict 0 tolerance policy.  If you don't play by the rules, you are killed.  This will negate most advantaged of being in a family that can not be killed.  Container crews are for people who actually need a place to start over, not a place to lay low.

When the game reaches a point where there are enough spaces for all new members and there is 24/7 job coverage not including the container crews, we will start reintegrating the containers back into the other crews, or, they may wish to seek auth and stay up (or suicide, to be discussed later)

Since they are unkillable, any disputes concerning the container crews upper structure should be settled by Squishy, Bunny, or DeadlySin.

Sponsors from other crews that reside in the container crew should wear their original crew tags in their profile so that members know who they are getting into bed with.

Being in a container crew means you can not get promoted to mademan.  If you are a member of one, it is important that you start grooming yourself to be ready for your sponsor to vouch for you in your shared future family, or, whatever crewleader you plan on going to next.

Container crews may last a week, may last a month.  They may dissolve and go into another family, they may receive auth and stay up.  They may be shot when their time is over by people they piss off, we don't know how it will end up.  We are offering 2 different type of compensation packages. The first is A) which you will get when the time is over, it is based upon how many days you stayed up, and if you will be re-integrating into the game with your character (minus the unkillable status of course).  The second is B) which is larger, but is for those who up front say they will be suicide their character and will not be integrating that character back into the game, this method is also paid out depending on how long you are up.

I have a list of those who applied to become a container crew and will be going down the list and setting them up in an as needed basis.

You should start seeing these crews within the next 24 hour.

Can the forts be attacked?

If you've already turned 'work' off, can you still join one? If so, how?

Report Post Tip

Will Container crew CLs be listed here, to ensure that they are not just rogues spurring up?

Report Post Tip
If war should break out, will these container crews be protected from that war?
Report Post Tip

The CLs themselves are protected, and the members have forts. I would hope that the existing CLs will keep them out of it if they are not involved.

Eye, you can go to this page and mail one of the current crew leaders set up who has room (it will say if the HQ is closed to the far right if they aren't accepting new recruits) about joining them. This is the old method of playing, without the job board. :) https://mafiareturns.com/news/localcrews.php

Do their jobs stay up when a legitimate crew has jobs on the board? I've never had such trouble getting new members after such a large scale war. Competing with "temp" crews for members is extremely aggravating and I'm really trying to figure out why we need to be competing with them to begin with? And what are the legitimate new crews supposed to do? Abandon their CL to join the temp crew and transfer members over? I'm sorry but this was a horrid rushed idea. All that was needed was a bit of patience and there would have been auths and opportunities just like there is after every war whether it be wide scale or not. It really seems like the game is expected to have a high number of auths all the time now available to choose from. When the game is based on power and killing each other, this will never be the case.
Hell if there are made men out there that their CLs would like them to be a temp crew. I'll pay for your fucking HQ myself(there will be limitations) so we can get rid of this mess and actually get back to building. If they work out and we want them to stick around, awesome. If not step down when we get things back on track. We have gotten threw these messes in the past fine so I'm really concerned as to why we had to get the admins so involved in the actual gameplay itself.

Total Crews: 10
Total Crew Space 371
Space In Open Crews: 60 (16.17%)
Active Unsponsored Players: 162

Bobby, as you can see - there is far more available unsponsored mobsters than the crews can provide homes for - even factoring in the temp crews, there will only be 20 spaces available once ALL the active unsponsored players have been housed.

You have to remember that Izzy pays out a lot of money for advertising, which constantly draws new players into the game. If these new players were unable to find a crew, they'd abandon the game before long - something I'm sure this idea is designed to avoid.

Furthermore, this has been implemented because despite the lowering of requirements to start a crew, new auths haven't exactly been flooding the streets. The demand is there, the supply is not.

Report Post Tip
How many of those are in NY taking advantage of the opportunity there?
How many are waiting for their friends to set up?
How many are just chat accounts?
How many are not planning on coming back full time since they just lost everything?
And how many are actually sitting unsponsored because of lack of space?
We are just assuming that the majority is in the last group. Which isn't the case. Competing with "temp" crews is extraordinarily difficult. And then we get into what happens if they do stay set up, do they get free forts and a possible pay out for what? We just have a lot of variables as to why someone is still unsponsored and it doesn't seem like we have reached out to them to see why. A simple poll could gather this information and I'm sure a small incentive such as some cash or partial credits will intice them into proceeding to complete it.
I completely agree with the concern, it's the way we are trying to solve this that is really what concerns me. I have full faith that the player base can handle these issues themselves and need no intervention other than possible funds.

The previous war got out of control or the ones who called the shots found themselves unable to deal with the results of their actions. Either way, it's obvious current player leadership needs a little help in housing players.

It was my understanding that once there is total coverage, they will be required to seek auth, then set up their own HQ and not simply keep the HQ and forts that admin paid for. If that is not the case, then it would be up to the remaining CLs to decide whether or not the advantage outweighs the contribution, and make a decision regarding auth at that juncture, I guess. I understand your concern, but as an emergency measure, I can also understand the steps taken.

Report Post Tip

"Competing with "temp" crews is extraordinarily difficult. "

Every crew is encouraged to have a sponsor in each container crew so that their sponsor can gather associates for them.  That isn't competition, this is a springboard so that when you auth your next crew they come complete with half a crew thats already worked together for a little bit and have pre-built loyalty via the associate-sponsor relationship.  Its essentially making every crew bigger until the crews are able to auth.

Report Post Tip
But for a new crew with that would mean the actual hands of the crew have to leave their crew for another just to hopefully snag some members? That then takes us away from being able to manage the crew we just created. And for a role playing game it honestly goes against everything that this place has stood for. What mobster is going to leave their leader to join someone else to gather new blood? I know there is a lot that doesn't follow the RPG aspect of the game but cmon we just dove off the deep end with this one. There are 4 container crews. If I were to go to one and our RH to another there's still two we are not in. And that cuts our opportunities to sponsor straight into our crew down to nothing. So that would play further into the main issue of jobs not being listed since we would lose 66% of our sponsors. We have been thru this gambit before and got out fine, it just takes a few days. Hell when spike took over we were in rebuild mode forever and only had one city populated forever. He had this place on lockdown and no one batted an eye. Or current leadership are giving opportunities left and right to fix the issue and are been overrun by this. But alas I guess we are stuck at either grabbing members from the boat directly to our crew or jumping to a temp crew to try and filter. Id much rather play the game how it's intended and not get help filling a crew from other ppl not associated to us and the admin team As we have all done many times in the past.
Report Post Tip

BobbyMunson you could also contact the leaders of the container crews to ask about new members or even contact the new members of the container crews directly all from your own crew.

It isn't a competition, we are only here to help.

I must agree wholeheartedly with the good Doctor here on this one, and would go so far as to offer up a daily crew list to the "real" CLs, as clearly your issue is with "competition." This would allow the CLs, and/or their sponsors ample opportunity to approach people and inform them on what their individual Families stand for.

Report Post Tip

+thusly avoiding them preemptively joining a crew based solely on the merit that they'd die otherwise.

Report Post Tip

I would also make note that perhaps having "TBA" as your ROLEPLAY intro and Other intro, might be a large deterrent for newcomers seeking a reliable Family.

Report Post Tip

Ubu, I'm not quite sure why you're pointing that out about us when your family is one of only two out there that have a proper RP intro. Most are half-assed or don't exist at all, and unlike all of the permanent families who lack it, we set up shop less than 48 hours ago. Do we not deserve some time to get things in order? You've been a leader before, I'm sure you understand how much work it takes. Tie that in to real life and you've got a lot on your plate.

As for the "competition" issue - I think this stems from the thoughts that the container crew leaders can easily just get authed right when their admin sponsorship ends and keep their entire family with them. Some people who join these container crews could be expecting this to happen and may very well be riding it out to see if it actually does, having no intentions of joining a "permanent" crew. You can see how this would be an issue, I trust.

Dr_KennethNoisewater, you do have a valid point there. However, for us, it would feel extremely weird doing that. It's like going to someone that is already crewed and asking "Hey, want to join us?" - Could you imagine that under any other circumstances? It just feels cheap to us. Personally, I feel it should be up to the container crew leaders to spread awareness of other crews to join. Leaders you like? Spread the news about them! Cities you want to see succeed? Recommend them! Like you said, you're here to help.

It doesn't help that some sponsors in these container crews appear to be whoring members - all look like new players who have no idea what's even going on. New players shouldn't be rushed into a family like that - they should take some time to look around first, get some genuine introductions to the game, and not jump on a cheap invite like that. I have no proof to back this up, it's all speculation on my part, but my eyes do know a whore when it sees one.

If that is the case, though, convincing brand new players to transfer out of a container crew to join our crew would be a massive pain in the ass. They probably have no idea who we are, what we want, or what we're even talking about. Experienced players are a different story, of course.

Just my two cents, gentlemen. Sharing my own point of view on the matter.  I do apologize if I rambled on a bit there.

Report Post Tips: 1 / Total: $20,000 Tip

Thus the entire point of permanent crew leaders providing sponsors to the container crews was mentioned Chibs. And the container crews are to exist until there are enough permanent crews, which means if there are enough permanent crews there is no need to auth a container crew leader....

Lets try the idea before we condemn it as bad here Chibs, give it an honest 100% effort to make it work, and then tell me what you don't like about it. What you are doing currently is looking across the street and going "Damn, my house looks soo much better then his..." without even looking at the inside of the house across the street. Go take a look first, make an informed decision based on how the whole process IS working vs how you feel it MIGHT work.
