HQ setup changes Started by: Otiag on Sep 25, '16 21:56

So after setting up today I noticed my levels had been dropped to 25. It has been brought to my attention that if you setup as a Wise Guy, it bumps you to 25 units and sets you to Made Man. On the surface this seems like a good idea, it helps people out. However if you put in the effort to make 40 units as I did, this literally saps you of 15 units for no reason. I have never heard of a game taking away experience like that for no good reason at all. My suggestion is we keep the bump to Made Man, and leave the experience alone. I can think of absolutely no reason why this is implemented the way it is, or in what way it benefits people to keep it that way. Feel free to use this thread to discuss it, or show me why it should remain this way.

I sincerely hope we can get this changed before someone else loses a weeks worth of effort for no reason at all.

Crews are for people who have been promoted to Made+ by a crew leader.  It has been this way for a decade.  Recently, we made it so that someone who is not made, (but has the XP and age) to set up without a crew hitting the button.  There is a downside, even a warning...  "If you buy an HQ as a Wise Guy, you will be promoted to Made Man and your experience and level will be set bare minimum for Made Man. This may cause your level to go down."

It is *always* advisable to wait until you are Made man to start an HQ, unless you feel that it is advantageous to do so by self promoting at wiseguy.

Report Post Tip

Its not taking away your experiance for No good reason. You are promoting yourself to being a Made member of the community. This sets you at level 25. However, if your leader thought you were worthy of the title they could have promoted you to Made Man and when you sey up, you wouldnt have lost anything.

Report Post Tip

Stole my thunder there Squishy! Said it far better than me too haha.

Report Post Tip

If you do not feel that becoming a crewleader at rank below the required level and without another crewleader giving you a promo, then I suggest waiting until you meet the minimum requirements.  We have a warning clearly spelling things out so its an informed decision ahead of time and give the choice to the user rather than making them wait to mademan.

Report Post Tip

Its still completely silly, if you setup at wise guy without a leaders consent, the other leaders will take you out as a rogue. There is no reason for the game to punish you. Let the crew leaders handle it.

Report Post Tip

The game isn't punishing you, it is asking if you want to self promo to mademan, letting you know that in doing so, it will set you at the bare minimum requirements to be mademan.

I do feel sorry for you that you didn't read the warning before you agreed to it.  I felt sorry so I even offered to give back your XP if wish to dissolve your crew and re-do it.

I can't, however, make an exception for you especially because of those before you who agreed to self promo did the exchange or waited for the proper rank.

Report Post Tip

And this is a suggestion to change the way the system is setup so that the self promote promotes you to made man without touching your units or experience. I am asking for change, not complaining about what happened to me. I saved that complaint for you in mobmails. This forum post here is looking to change the way it handles self promote to allow the leaders of this game to judge on whether you deserve it not the game.

Report Post Tip

I thought giving the users the ability to make the choice on their own would be beneficial.  Starting a crew means you can give auth to anyone to shoot at anyone.  For this to take place, in my opinion, it has to be earned - either by getting authed and promoted by a CL, or taking the hit and doing it before you meet the actual requirements, promoting yourself to the bare minimum.

This feature also gives the ability for users who want to bypass the current powers that be and do their own thing (Rogues and what not).  I think by allowing rogues to self promo and start shooting at CLs without ever getting promoed by a CL should come at a slight cost - again, totally their choice if they want to or not.

In situations where I can give a  user a choice, rather than not - I like to give them that choice.

Report Post Tip

The game automatically promotes you to wiseguy - every rank up until then has to be earned by the system.  Past that, you have to rely on your social skills to get further than that by getting a crew leader to trust you enough and think you earned that rank.

I think to bypass all of that without giving up anything cheapens it.  I don't think making it even easier is the right solution being that there is a already a choice that you can accept or not.

What do you suggest?

Report Post Tip

Lets take my situation complete out of this thread. Let me try and reset and paint a different picture for you.

Imagine if you will, we just delete the database for this game, forcing everyone to start from 0. And Imagine if you will, that no one has played this game before, so no one has a clue about anything and we are all learning as we go. We're grinding units and enjoying the game and being social etc etc, waiting for that big 11 days when we start forming crews and group and really enjoy the game. By this time the better players will no doubt have 30-40 units. Now imagine they hit 11 days and they go to promote and they see they wasted half the time they spent on the game in the last week in a half because they can kiss that experience good bye.

How exactly is your system supposed to work in that scenario and not just piss off a bunch of players and have them quit? In that scenario I would be utterly demoralized about the game, just the same as I am right now. And no one reads the games warning because no one expects it at all. They expect it to be just like every other aspect of the game, just like selling drugs on the CA. Click to sell. You really want to sell? click it again. All done, walla sold drugs made profit yeehaw. That is what was expected when I bought the HQ so no I didn't bother to read the page from start to finish. Neither did Thecreaper so he got the same treatment as me. Just the fact that it has happened twice means at the very least we should re-evaluate how the alert is presented to the user, wouldn't you agree?

Report Post Tip

With the new suggestions as to how  run our new post war world  this rule does seem a bit outdated. It also appears it may be  or could possibly become a downfall if not a downfall at the very least a hindrance. To this new world order we are all experiencing that the main city heads are trying to implement.

Report Post Tip

I should add that in my opinion the your mentioned Rogue example, if the Rogue earned 40 units and setup at 11 days as a Wise Guy, more power to them, they deserve to keep it. They worked hard for it.

Report Post Tip

How many confirmations should we put in to protect users from themselves?    Three?  Would five suffice?

I'm really not trying to be rude, but, when presented with a choice, if I choose to do something and skip the bold warning and just blindly click it, I would take personal responsibility for it.

I almost would rather take the choice away to promo early, then have to put in additional warnings, check boxes, captchas, type in your character name, you and your neighbor turn the key at the same time type scenario to protect the user from themselves.

I took responsibility for mine

This is a new world, but that doesn't change the game mechanics. You took a tough one on the chin, but that's life. Throwing a verbal hissyfit isn't going to resolve anything.
Report Post Tip

Otiag, there have been experimental cities in the past that went exactly by your example. Other than the part where nobody knew anything about the game and the mechanics which let's be honest, will never happen. But we had to deal with the same thing, as will the people participating in the New York project. This is a game where people are going to get pissed off, time and time again pissed off. We always come back, whether it be pissed at the gods for a DD we did not feel was justified or having an account over a year old get snuffed out while you were asleep by someone that was supposed to be an ally, everyone knows that there will always be salt at this table somewhere.

It's simple, if you're an authorized leader your own leader should have gave you your button before you set up. That is one of the requirements to setting up and if they trust you enough to give you your own HQ they should trust you enough for your button prior to leaving. It's been this way for as long as I can remember. If you go the other route and not get your button, the only reason I can see someone doing it is by accident and they didn't read the warning or you're a rogue. If you're a rogue, and you have been making money of how much drugs you can use I'm sure you're using family ties to procure all those drugs. Do you not think that once you rogue out of a crew, that entire crew and everyone associated to and allied with would cut ties to you? So in an RP stance, you losing this does make sense because rogueing out of a criminal family would hurt your business immensely which it has in your case.

Report Post Tip

No one is throwing a verbal hissy fit, nor am I am trying to chuck the blame on something else. I am saying the system is not necessary, we should change it. Lets talk about the suggestion, not be rude dudes. Bayley if you would like to talk for or against the change please continue, otherwise please leave the discussion for those who wish to discuss it.

As for how many times should you ask? one, time, try a different route. A pop up box like with the achievement page maybe? This gets peoples attention better then text on a page when they need to pay attention rather then just click monkey which is what people generally do in browser based games.

Report Post Tip

While I understand your frustration, is it not your own fault that you personally didn't read the warning?

Further, it just makes sense. If you set up as a Wise Guy, before "making your bones" and before being honored with the ranking of Made Man, you deserve your losses. Nobody gave you your rank. You stole it. At least if we are looking at it from a realism standpoint. After effectively stealing a prestigious rank, why should you get to keep the units you have accrued? It's a fair trade. You traded units for Made Man. This is without mentioning the opportunity granted to you to lead your own crew.....
