| Mass Shootings | Started by: Unacceptable on Aug 06, '19 04:01 |
| Guns should be in the hands of police and military only. Simple as that. | |

I agree with the right to bear arms. It's a part of the constitution and everyone should be entitled to it. I however live in the state of NY. And our gun control laws are pretty strict. No hand guns permitted and any licensed guns are rifles, that need to be placed separately from ammo. It's a process and a half to get a gun license in NY. But guess what, (knock on wood) we havent had mass shootings in NY. Its partially due to the strict laws on guns vs deterrence via every carrying weapons. If deterrence was going to work. We wouldnt be having mass shootings in states with lax gun laws. |

The sad part of it all, and don't get me wrong please, is that I'm not even surprised or shocked when I hear about another shooting... I'm absolutely not a fan of the current president but it can't be blamed on him alone, this having-a-gun-policy has been for this since.. well.. ever... And solving it will take decades... And during that time thousands or more will have been killed. I'm from Belgium, having a gun here is rare, having a gun in America is like a 12 year old b-day present.. But who am I to take away traditions... Just don't expect me to be outraged and shocked when the next shooting happens next week (let's hope not)

There were dozens of mass shootings under the presidency of Barack Obama and not one person blamed him. Now some happen with Trump and he is blamed. The pure hypocrisy is ridiculous. The real problem is mental health. Not who is the fucking president. Also what is wrong with everyone? MSM is spreading the killers name over every news broadcast for the entire following day, giving him free press. He does not deserve any airtime. People are blaming the right and the NRA, even though the shooter was a Democrat. We should be using this to draw the country together and not let us pull us apart any further. Change will not happen overnight but this is just throwing us even farther backwards. Time to stand together as Americans. |

But the point is - if he had mental health issues, then he shouldn't have access to guns... so limit the access. Use that as a jumping off point. If more restrictions are needed, then so be it, but to blindly deny change is needed helps nobody - least of all the victims who were just innocently minding their business, and any future victims of the lax laws that arm maniacs. |

It's no ones fault but the idiots that did it. It's not their parents fault, it's not some manufacturers fault. It's the dumbasses that did it. What doesnt help is how the media feeds off these tragedies. Every single story blasted for all to see is now this bs. That is what feeds these crazy ppls desire to one up the last one and become famous and known. The media doesnt push any other stories like they push these. You dont see them pushing stories about heroin overdoses which is killing a fuck ton more ppl daily than crazies with weapons. It's not the weapons at all. If you need an example to prove this, fkin 9/11. Plane tickets and box cutters can kill thousands. |

And when 9/11 happened, TSA tightened the fuck outta flight checks to prevent it ever happening again. You can't carry liquids, gotta go through numerous checks and scanners, there are sniffer dogs, the cockpit locked and bulletproof, but because guns are written into the constitution, it's sacreligious to suggest reviewing the processes to mitigate future atrocities after several hundred mass shootings? Honestly, common sense goes out the window with some of these arguments. And honestly, comparing mass shootings to a bona fide addiction? Come on, at least gimmie a challenge. |

People bring up the 2nd amendment to the constitution when ever there is a shooting. Look at the word "amendment" what does that mean...Well it means change to the original it doesn't mean "you" have the right. The law gave you the right to bare arms and the Law can take it away. Amendment means "CHANGE" it can change again. Also remember the 2nd amendment was written at a time when the country did not have enough money to arm its own army. So the citizens were given the right to bare arms. Which was put in place to protect and serve the new founding country. Well I believe that it has grown up since that time period don't you.
What needs to be put into place is the ability for the police and politician to protect the masses. If that mean restricting or removal of curtain guns then the "People" should get behind that and not hide behind the 2nd amendment which is outdated.
I served for 26 years in the U.S. Army and now that I am out, I have no need for a gun nor do I care to own one ever again. No one should have to live in fear of his neighbors ... "DO YOU KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOR" |

I mean even if there is a good guy with a gun who kills the shooter in 30 seconds, like in Dayton, the gunman still managed to kill 9 people and injure 14 more. |

I can leave a rifle on my porch and walk away knowing that that rifle wont kill anyone. Guns by them selves dont kill people, its the finger on the trigger that kills. You can out law hand guns, rifles, knives, rope, spoons, forks etc. all you want. If someone wants to kill, they'll find a way to kill, no matter what laws are in place to prevent that. Perhaps society should figure out and fix the root of the problem what ever that may be instead of playing the blame game |

That's true - you could leave a rifle on your porch and it wouldn't kill anyone... however, the same could be said about a vial of ricin, anthrax or cyanide. Does that mean that ricin, anthrax or cyanide don't kill people? Of course not - it's daft to suggest that, but because someone has made that argument once, every gun loving republican jumped on it and trots it out ad nauseam. |

Amendments can and have been changed. We started with 10, we now have 27. The 18th was literally reversed by the 21st. The constitution lays out the process to add or alter amendments for a reason: times change so laws change. |

What does owning something legally have to do with it ? Its the persons fault not the item . |

It's the person that uses them that does the damage, right? So why are poisons illegal if they're not dangerous without human input? Lets just legalise all the poisons! My point being - it's dangerous, so laws are in place to limit the chances of it being able to do any damage. Why not the same with guns? They also have one use, really; death. If you advocate one killing machine, why stop there? Legalise everything and we'll go Darwinian on the population... right? |
