Then i guess we need background checks to buy a car then right ? My point is its not the item its the people. To say guns have one use is laughable. |

So what else are guns used for? Switching on the TV? Cooking your dinner? Painting a picture? And the car argument is an absolute non-starter; cars are used for transport, not death. Sure death can be a by-product of people misusing cars, but that risk is mitigated by age restriction, training and licensing, and numerous laws to protect the public from recklessness. The cops monitor the roads, perform random stops to check the driver's authority to drive, there are laws against using cars drunk or high... I could go on and on here, but I think you get where I'm going - the use of cars is a privilege and is heavily restricted. Guns have no restrictions about being used drunk or high, there is no minimum age for buying a gun in some states (afaik) and there is no restrictions on the age of actually using a gun anywhere in the US, there's no requirement for training, and very little for licensing, yet a gun's primary use is to kill things. |

More rounds of ammunition are used in one day for target shooting then used in all the mass shootings combined . I have shot thousands of rounds yet not one time have i thought about using my gun for killing another person.
There are laws against drinking and driving yet does that stop people from killing with there cars ?? I could easily go out today in my car and kill more people then any mass shooting would you blame the car or me ?
Primary use for a gun is to kill ... primary use for a car is transportation yet cars kill more innocent people then guns do.
Again its not the items fault |

You do realise that, despite gun prohition in the UK, we still have gun clubs where people can go and shoot, right? Clay pigeon shooting is quite common here, but we don't have guns readily available nor on the streets, and as a result - no mass shootings. Gun owners can get their rocks off whenever they want, without the risk to the general public, because guns and their owners are licensed, registered and trained. If you're using your guns safely and only for shooting targets, then I don't see the problem with being registered, licensed and properly trained? But why is there a need for sniper rifles? Are your targets half a mile away? An AK-47 isn't used for target practice, or leisure shooting, is it? Kinda takes the skill outta it if you're spraying bullets at a target, right? And again - you have to be taught how to drive a car. You have to hold a license. You're restricted by age. You can't use a car whilst drunk or high. How much of that can be said about owning and using a gun in America? |

Yes Long range shooting competitions is something people do and also many people do like to target practice with automatic weapons so yes they are used for target practice or leisure shooting.
Do you really believe the just because a gun owner is licensed, registered and trained it will stop mass shootings ? Like you say we have to be taught to drive there are many rules and laws we must follow to drive yet cars sill kill more why is that ? Its because some dumb ass decides to drive when drunk not the cars fault or the alcohol same as in a mass shooting its the dumb ass who decides to go out and kills innocent people fault not the guns .
We have drunk driving laws does that stop people from driving drunk ? We have laws against all kinds of violence yet its still a problem why is that . From what your saying all we need to do is make rules, laws or to be trained and it will all stop??????
NO its the person who chooses to break the laws fault and they will do it regardless of rules, laws or training. |

There was a mass shooting in a school in Dunblane in Scotland, after that, we instituted gun laws, in the 23 years since then there have been zero mass shootings. Not one. Farmers and gun enthusiasts can still access guns, but there are no mass shootings, yet you don't think theres a correlation? The reason there is still violence is human nature - some people can't handle anger, rejection, envy or any number of emotions. Do you honestly think it's wise to arm those people with a machine designed to kill? As for the car argument, why don't you go ahead and count how many mass murderers in America have decided to go on a killing spree and thought "I knew what'll do the trick - my Chevvy Impala!"? In fact, I'll save you the hassle - it's four. Four in the last 50 years, and one of those was actually a knife attack. And how many died? Again, I can tell you - 9 people. Now can we put the car argument to bed finally? Anyway, I kinda feel we're going around in circles here - I make valid points and you refute them by saying "but the guns can't shoot themselves" or "cars kill more people than guns do", and it's becoming quite exasperating to me, so I'mma go ahead and tag outta this debate until there are some cogent arguments put forth. Peace out. |

Take a look at the population of Scotland compared to the USA kind of a big difference. Now put that population in Scotland and i bet your statistics on gun crimes would go way up. |

The UK has 0.23 deaths by firearms per 100,000 people per year The US has 12.21 deaths by firearms per 100,000 people per year Your bet would be wrong. |

Lol at the perfect UK folks that put off like they live in this crime free bubble bc they have less shootings than another country. Go look at your knife crime stats and how they are soaring. I think last year was a 6% increase. Weapons are a tool, no weapon kills anyone. People kill people. Did your mom not tell you that you could do anything you put your mind to? Its human nature to solve and accomplish our goals, even if they're sick. What I dont understand is why everyone flips out about it ppl do fucked up shit in so many ways. There are alot bigger more prevalent crimes that affect a much bigger portion of the population and you are much more at risk of being the victim and dying from than a random ass shooting. Literally not worried at all about being shot. |

I don't know how many times I've said "register", "license" and "training", but I do know how many times I've said that all guns should be removed from all Americans - none. And therein lies the problem with this discussion; it's one sided. You're so certain of your own veracity that you boorishly refuse to see a better way. You hear "restrictions", and you're petrified someone will remove your toys from you. Not to worry though, it's a trait shared amongst most ardent gun nuts. I'm gonna say this again, and try to use very, very basic language for you: In the United Kingdom owning guns without being registered and licensed is illegal, HOWEVER, if you have a legitimate reason, you can own guns. All you have to do is register and license your gun, then you can own and use it. What is it you're finding difficult to comprehend here? |

Wow, the knife argument again? Ok, knife murders are higher in America per capita than the UK. Again with the lack of comprehension. |

Please explain how "register", "license" and "training", is going to stop some crazy ass person from attempting a mass shootings or killing ? And please dont use the well it works in the uk as your reason thats getting old as well.
One sided ? yet all you do is blame the item not the person ? kind of like the pot calling the kettle black dont ya think ? |

You mean it's worked everywhere else it's been done - not just the UK. Well as I said - think about it like driving a car... if you know how to use a car, you're less likely to cause injury, right? So train someone how to use a gun properly and they're less likely to misuse it. Once they have proved they know how to use it, they get a license. Like, with a car - you don't have a license, you can't buy a car cos you haven't proved you can use it properly and safely. Once you have a gun, you register it so that you're far less likely to give it to someone without a license, thereby reducing the risk of a dangerous person getting their hands on a gun - same with a car. Is it perfect? No. Does gun crime still happen in the gun prohibited countries? Yes. Does it reduce the number of deaths and mass shootings? Undoubtedly. |

Sure lets train this crazy ass person how to use a gun properly .. now he will be more effective and kill a lot more people I was taught how to drive a car do you think thats the reason i dont drink and drive ? just because someone told me i cant . People were trained not to drink and drive hows that working ? I was also taught hunter safety and how to shoot a gun , my guns were registered that has nothing to do with why i will not go on a shooting spree
What keeps the sane people from killing innocent people ? do you really think its just because its the law or because you make things hard to get ?
When you get mad what keeps you from going out and killing ? is it because guns are hard to get then why not use a knives your car perhaps a baseball bat or anything for that matter ? its because something inside your head tells you its not right .. anyone who could go out and kill innocent people dont have that and no matter how hard you make things they will find a way to take lives if thats what they are intent to do.
Alot of the mass shooters showed red flags why was nothing done ? even announced they wanted to kill . You can pretend that taking away guns or making them harder to get will stop or slow down mass killings but sadly i wont...we need to focus on the killer not the item used . |

To that I would say that here, you have to prove to the chief of police that you prove no threat before you get a license. You can't buy guns without it. Sure, crazy dude can shoot in a safe environment surrounded by trained staff, but he can't get a gun to keep until he's proven he's no threat to the public. I appreciate that's a strict policy, and not a particularly feasible one for America nowadays with the number of guns in circulation, but I think we can both agree that blindly arming anyone with a coupla hundred bucks in a Walmart is at the other end of the strictness spectrum. Some sort of checks should be mandatory, country-wide, and mental health issue red flags should at least limit access for the more dangerous applicants. Like I said, at least use that as a jumping off point and see if it improves the situation. Even if it manages to slow mass shootings to just one every other day - that's a win. |
