The Candy Galore Store Started by: Dawn on Jul 14, '20 18:42

I can never say no to a cheeky piece of chocolate!

Seanie walks in and takes a good look around at the selection. A vast array of colours striked him and he was almost overwhelmed by the amount of candy on offer.

This establishment has been around a long time and comes with a great reputation. I'll grab a Baby Ruth and some gummy bears for now. Just to get the energy flowing.

Cuboyd never had an hour to knock off much. He thought about hitting the hay for a bit but internally agreed that his time could be better spent, or could it? He debated for a while, so much so that he once again worked up a hunger, no surprise there. He'd just had lunch, how could this happen again? Needing and craving a snack, he checked the HQ cupboard for something, nay anything to fill this hunger. Nada, not a crumb in the HQ. Letting out a big sigh, he knew he would be the one to have to embark on a snack run. Better still, he knew he'd be the one that would have to pony up for it too.

Cuboyd put on his coat and left the HQ. He felt a brisk wind slap his face as he entered the cool air of Detroit. Where to go? Where to go? He switched it up today. He went right as opposed to his usual left. Upon setting off, he scoured up and down looking for a snack shop. There had to be a candy store around here somewhere right? Bingo. Right on 12th Street he comes across The Candy Galore Store. Even saying the name in his head made him drool. To the Candy Galore Store it is!

The store was well kept, tidy and full of goodies, so much so that it gave Cuboyd a sugar rush just looking at it all. He was in heaven and he wasn't coming back anytime soon. Candy bars, bubble gum, sugar babies. My god this place had everything. Cuboyd walked around the store for a bit, filling his arms with as much sugar products as he could before sauntering up to the checkout to see how much this sugar rush was going to cost. He didn't much care for the bill at this point, he had to be fed. Cuboyd dropped several Sugar Babies Candy, Babe Ruth Bars, Payday Candy Bars and multiple small packets of Haribo Gold Bears before taking a deep inhale to regain his composure.

"Good day sir." the sweet cashier bellowed. "My, my, you must be a hungry fellow today!"

"Good day, you have absolutely no idea" he said while a drip of sweat ran down his head from the amount he'd carried over. The focus on getting from A to B shouldn't be this difficult, maybe next time he would bring an associate or better yet, send the associate themselves to do his dirty work. The cashier totalled up the candy costs. Cuboyd didn't even hear the amount, the usual ball of money was produced from his pocket and he gave the cashier two big notes.

"Get you and your family some of these to take home tonight dear." Cuboyd grinned as he walked away with his bag of goodies. The cashier held up the notes in appreciation and waved Cuboyd away. Cuboyd couldn't wait to get back to HQ before eating a snack. He heard a Babe Ruth Bar calling out his name. It was gone by the time it could even get out the wrapper fully. The boys back at HQ were going to love this.

I told JamesDiVasio I was taking him to one of my favorite places to meet one lovely person. I explained that she was one of Big Moe’s most trusted clients who received product on consignment. She hosts free events for the community, is well respected, and is known as a woman not to be messed with.  Her biggest problem is that she hates banks, and refuses to go into one.  So someone was always needed to pick up her deposits.

James's eyes popped wide open when we walked into the Candy Galore Store and he saw all the delicious candies on display around the room. It’s amazing how we turn back into little kids as we walk through her store remembering our beloved candies we hadn’t tasted in a long time.

A big smile came to Ms Odessa’s face when she saw us walk in and came to give me a heartfelt hug. I introduced her to James and she hugged him as well.

We followed her upstairs to her apartment when she handed James two large decorated candy containers. She told him there were thirty thousand in both and asked if he wanted her to count it.  He was taken off guard and quickly said that wouldn't be necessary.  Good answer she said because she didn’t want to have to kill him thinking she might be dishonest.  I just laughed. James told her he would try and pick her deposits each week but if he couldn’t he would make sure it would be someone she could trust and would call her in advance who it would be. He didn’t want her to have that much cash on hand.  Ms Odessa told him he didn’t have to worry about she had protection She placed the candy containers in a large shopping bag for him.

Before we left the store James and I stacked up on our favorite candies.

It was the butt crack of dawn and Insomnia couldn't get a wink of sleep, feeling sluggish he decides to stroll the streets of Detroit looking to find the first fix he could get ahold of to wake his ass up. Whether it be cocaine, coffee or caffeine he needed it asap before his business trip out of town.

Minutes later Insomnia finds himself infront of a bright, decorative building with glass windows on the outside. Peaking inside he notices an abundance of delicious looking candy and treats. Opening the door to the building he begins to observe his options while locking his lips, rubbing his hands together anxiously.

"I want candy, bubble gum, and taffy! Please!"

Reaching into his back pocket he pulls out and opens his wallet, paying before leaving with a big ole grin on his face.

Vylzmyrktshenqx moved with his usual calculated grace as he made his way toward The Candy Galore Store. It was a new addition to the neighborhood, but word had already spread about the vibrant little shop on the corner of 6th Ave and Nine Mile Road. As he approached, the vivid colors of the storefront and the inviting scent of sugar lured him inside, a stark contrast to the otherwise cold and calculated world he operated in.

The door opened with a soft chime, and Vylzmyrktshenqx stepped into a paradise of sweets. The interior was even more impressive than he’d expected, with rows upon rows of candies displayed like precious gems. Each shelf was meticulously arranged, drawing customers in with a visual feast that promised a taste of nostalgia and indulgence.

Behind the counter stood Dawn, the store’s owner. She was every bit as sharp and composed as the rumors suggested, her welcoming smile concealing the steel beneath. As her eyes met his, she seemed to recognize him—or at least, recognize the kind of man he was.

“Good afternoon,” Dawn greeted, her tone friendly but professional. “Welcome to The Candy Galore Store. Can I help you find something special today?”

Vylzmyrktshenqx let his gaze drift over the selection of candies. “I’ve heard a lot about this place,” he said, his voice low and measured. “Thought I’d come and see what all the fuss is about. Got any recommendations?”

Dawn didn’t miss a beat. “We have a little bit of everything, depending on what you’re in the mood for. But if I had to suggest something, the Big Hunk Candy Bar is a favorite around here. It’s got roasted peanuts and chewy honey nougat—simple, but satisfying.”

He nodded, his eyes narrowing slightly as he considered. “I’ll take one of those. And a box of Sugar Babies. Heard those are good too.”

Dawn quickly retrieved the items, placing them on the counter with practiced ease. “Good choice. Anything else catch your eye?”

Vylzmyrktshenqx took a moment, his gaze lingering on a shelf filled with PEZ dispensers. He hadn’t seen those in years. A flicker of memory passed through his mind—something from a time when life was a little less complicated. With a small, almost imperceptible smile, he added a PEZ dispenser to his purchase. “I’ll take this as well.”

Dawn rang up his purchase, her movements efficient and calm. “That’ll be $3.75.”

Vylzmyrktshenqx handed her a crisp bill, far more than what was owed. “Keep the change. Consider it an investment in the neighborhood.”

Dawn’s smile remained steady, though there was a hint of understanding in her eyes. “Thank you. I’ll make sure it’s put to good use.”

As she handed him his bag, Vylzmyrktshenqx met her gaze. “I like what you’ve done with the place, Dawn. It’s good to see someone taking care of business around here. I’ll be sure to send a few more customers your way.”

Dawn nodded, her expression resolute. “I appreciate that, Vylzmyrktshenqx. You’re always welcome here.”

He gave a slight nod, then turned and headed for the door. The bell chimed again as he stepped out into the fading light, the bag of candy tucked safely under his arm. As he walked down the street, the weight of the purchase—a simple indulgence—felt oddly satisfying. In his world, small gestures like this could carry significant meaning.

The neighborhood was changing, and Vylzmyrktshenqx knew that it was wise to keep close tabs on those who were driving that change. Dawn had made a good impression, and in his line of work, relationships built on mutual respect could be more valuable than any amount of money.

He’d be back—if not for the candy, then to ensure that The Candy Galore Store remained a friendly face in a district that was always one wrong move away from chaos.

Carlo stood in the doorway of The Candy Galore Store, his eyes wide with wonder. He hadn’t intended to stop, but the vibrant displays and the nostalgic aroma of sugar had pulled him in like a magnet. With his errands nearly finished, he figured he could spare a few minutes and maybe relive some sweet memories.

He walked in slowly, glancing at the colourful rows of candy, each sparking a memory from his childhood. As he approached the counter, a smile spread across his face. "Wow, this place is incredible," Carlo said to the young woman behind the counter. "I haven’t seen half of these candies in years. I feel like a kid again." He chuckled.

His eyes landed on a display of Sugar Babies, and he chuckled. "I used to save my allowance to buy these every week. I’ll definitely take some of those. And throw in a 5th Avenue bar. I haven’t had one of those in forever."

Carlo took another look around, still amazed by the store's charm. "I just came in for a quick look, but I think I might leave with a bag full of childhood memories. You’ve got something special here."

Dreams always loved candy bars although as a kid he was not allowed to have any. His parents were so restrictive that he was not able to enjoy the obvious luxuries in life that other kids were. While all of his friends sat around eating candy and snacks he had his apples and fruit juice, it was a trajedy for a kid to have to go through that, however, now he was an adult and The Candy Galore Store was the perfect stop for him.

He entered through the front door and had a look around but it did not take long to see what exactly he wanted as he grabbed a handful of the Snickers Candy Bar as they were his favorite. He walked up to the register and said "This is quite an impressive store you have here." He tipped his cap as he was told how much the total was. He paid in cash and went on strolling out the door as happy as he was when he was a kid and got to have the special occasion chocolate.
