I went for many years for AMD, as it was a little bit cheaper compared to Intel, with the same cpu speed I mean. Now, I don't even remember why, but I have a Intel processor. Maybe all together it was more convenient.

I remember back in the day an AMD 386 performed better than the much newer Intel Pentium 75, which was Intel's replacement for the 486.

I haven't built a pc in ages but I would be leaning to AMD over Intel for the first time in years, they seem to have more bang per buck and support more features. I think Intel got too comfortable.

Most of my parts for my new machine should be arriving today, hopefully the BIOS flashing without a CPU goes well.

I've got an AMD RX 480. I've had it for years, even spilled a rum and coke on it late one night. Still kicking, playing all the games I used to play and a lot of new ones. Haven't needed to upgrade, even after 5+ years. Seems like GPU power is outpacing what games need- I'm usually scrambling to make space on my hard drive for this insanely large games moreso than trying to get my frames up.

I will be with intel for cpu. AMD likes to do more cores at a lower clockrate while intel does lower cores higher clockrate. This means that more single threaded programs intel will perform better then AMD.

Capo you clearly haven't seen the latest passmark results for single threaded performance. AMD have increase their instructions per cycle/clock. Even the Ryzen 5 5600x beats the Intel i9 10900k! I'm far from an AMD fan boy as I've run intel for years, my current machine being i7 7700k, but the numbers speak for themselves.

True those benchmarks are showing nice details but thats only a few benchmarks. I want to see what the benchmarks are like once they get to the public first also i want to know how the heat will be.

I was an Intel fanboy until around the start of the pandemic when I decided my old i5 wasn't up to snuff with the latest games anyway. I was getting massive lag spikes when trying to play warzone with friends and it kind of forced my hand. With Intel still be so high priced I switched when I went looking for a new chip and my mobo not supporting any higher end Intel cpus, I just went for an AMD 3800x and well this chip has been great taking everything I throw at it and still giving me head room. Great investment to be fair, I'd like to see Intel get some better priced chips with higher performance down the line so I can eventually switch back, but if they keep slacking I think I'll just stick to AMD for the foreseeable future.

My last PC was all AMD but this new one is all intel and it works just fine for me. I don't know much about gaming, but it runs the games that I do play (which are typically not very powerful) just fine.

i'm using 3900 and for multicore workload i prefer it over the intel lines, but for single core focused high FPS gaming i think intel is still winning atm

I think since AMD have released the ryzen series the discussion is over. Intel massively underestimated the powah of AMD. I don't think anybody in their right mind would want an Intel CPU right there, all their latest chips suck!

Frankly I'm not that computer savvy to know the difference between AMD and Intel but from some of the posts it's seems like AMD is the better of the two.

I was reading this thread. And to me it was like another language. That is probably due to my limited understanding of computing and such. However, I have never had a AMD and have used Intel plenty. Not necessarily the most serious of gamers either. So can't really say, Intel just devours everything. It was an interesting read though. 

Even though I'm currently using AMD I wouldn't count out Intel just yet. Intel used to be behind AMD in performance from 386 to pentium lineup but when the Core2Duo came out they jumped ahead in performance.

What's holding Intel back currently is they're stuck on an old 14nm process but once the get a working 7nm process things might change. Also I believe Intel will be doing DDR5 & PCIe 5.0 before AMD.

Well it looks like Intel are digging their own grave, it seems even the "K" series is getting hybrid chips with a mix of performance and efficiency cores.

Intel obviously don't understand their customer base as anyone who buys a "K" will tend to run it set on an all core overclock or all core full turbo.

I recently bought myself a new laptop where I made sure to go for something with an AMD (amongst other things) because of all the good things I've heard about them. On past computers, I've only really had Intel, and honestly I'm not enough of a geek to be able to tell the difference. But I am still very happy with it, and I was even told of a program related to AMD and Ryzen that lets you control the temperature limits and power usage, which can be very useful. Not sure whether there's an equivalent for Intel, but it works perfectly for me!

Sam_Gardner is that software Ryzen Master? when I tried using that on my laptop it said my CPU wasn't supported. Not that it maters really as the controls in Asus ROG Command Centre are good enough.

Crosshair It's called Ryzen Controller, it should be the first link popping up on google. Works well for me, haven't had any issues with it :)
