i used to build computers for a hobby and mostly used intel; i used AMD processors sometimes, but always felt that they were not as good. Now i use and intel processor on a mac (for home comuting) and intel on windows for work.  

josephting even I'm looking at maybe going Zen 4 when it comes out even though I've not long built a Zen 3 machine. But it all depends on the availability & maturity of DDR5 RAM, Quad channel RAM & PCIe 5 NVMe drives.

I wet from an i7-7700k to an R9 5900X, the i7 was always quick but with the PCIe 4 NVMe & the IPC uplift there's just no comparison.

I have never really gotten into how crazy they are. I have always had intel and haven't had any problems with them. I have been with the i5s and just recently moved up to the i7. 

Dafuk I think next gen release is a collaborative effort from all parties involved but yeah, it remains to be seen. Regardless, I'm pretty sure it'll be a great upgrade considering I'm rocking 60+% CPU usage most of the time lately with my 6 years old i7-6700K. :P

Simple fact is half peoples problem is using hardware that get the best out of each component involved.   so they end up bottlenecked by Graphics and processor pairings.   Or using low ram with a decent processor, or even boards that don't support the speed of ram.

I will probaly upgrade to one of the new budget zen 3 processors from AMD witht he AMD 5500/5600 a possibility.   I just don;'t see the point of going top spec when i don't play anything that high end, and generally computer speeds evolve faster than the needs for games are.    So you may get a fastr frame rate, but if a solo game, most people won't notice the difference as they can only process so much of what they see

Depends on the screen size & title Yuri, I have two 4k HDR monitors one of which is 144Hz so even with a 12Gb over clocked RTX 3080 with an AMD Ryzen 5900, 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 & a PCIe 4 NVMe, something like Watch Dogs Legion on full settings isn't gonna sit at 144 FPS.

I went with AMD for my new PC, performance has been solid.
