Ahhh, that's the 3rd party tool that's not created by AMD. I've heard nothing but good things about it though.

I mean depends on everything I guess, the usage and how and the why, but for normal rig like gaming and such, I would go with AMD, cheaper, almost same quality if not better

Can't say I have ever used an Intel machine they were always too expensive compared to AMD over the years so always went for AMD although now AMD blows Intel out the water with their Ryzen CPU's, when I built my last one I went with the Ryzen 5 with an Asus strix mobo mainly for the M.2 compatibility, overall I would go with AMD everytime always done what I need at a reasonable price.

So, it used to be Intel over AMD all day every day. Intel really innovated the market for processors. However, AMD has caught up with them quite easily. Now, both are as good as the other. Personally, I prefer Intel, but I don't mind AMD. If you're not too tech savvy, I'd suggest going Intel because it's easier to understand which processor is better than its predecessor (e.g. I7 > I6 > I5, etc.).

I like intel better. Seems like its more user friendly then AMD but I also have a pc with  an AMD processor in it.

Hard to beat AMD.  Just has shown alot of good long term performance.  I guess you get what you pay for in this category and I've seen good and bad.  But the good is usually REALLY good and impressive.

AMD is basically the same though, Ryzen 9 > Ryzen 7 > Ryzen 5 > Ryzen 3.

However the naming does get confusing when it comes to the mobile versions. My tower I built with a 5900X 12 core, when I bought my latest laptop I got one with a 5900HX. Now being a laptop you expect it to have a lower clock speed but worse it's only 8 cores & only has 16MB of L3 cache which compared to desktop puts more in between the 5600X & 5800X.

Seeing about an AMD upgrade black friday, but will see what happens and how much silicone shortage reflects on whats available with graphics card shortages etc recently.   Price as much as performance will be the contributing factors for me

Now with it being some years later I wonder if the feelings have changed by those who posted earlier. I recently upgraded my PC to an AMD Ryzen 7 5800x but I'm still running my old GTX 10 series GPU. The GPU prices are going down and I know I can't bottle neck this CPU with any card on the market. I think a RTX 3070 might be a good middle ground for me, for price and power.

I'm still happy with my AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, although I did manage to get an Asus Strix RTX 3080 12GB OC GPU so the Titan Xp Galactic Empire edition is out.

Even if I were building now I'd go the same route, until pcie gen 5 nvme's are readily available & DDR5 has matured to get better timings I don't think it's worth going Intel. I also disagree with having efficiency cores on i7 & i9s, keep those to the i3 & i5s.

I have always had intel but really leaning towards AMD this i3 I have is sluggish would love to see what the AMD equivalent would do maybe better couldnt be much worse 

I guess for the pricing AMD might be a good choice in the future 

I have never had AMD, only Intel. How can I buy something when I do not understand what the letters stand for. 

What I do use is a screen. I do use a screen and keys. The keys are important. I hit them and then hit them some more.

Dafuk, that's a really nice GPU. Did you manage to get it at a decent price? Also very good point on your second paragraph, I don't regret going AMD at all for my CPU I love what I have.

Heston, you should look at the mid-range CPUs that AMD has right now. I think you'd be surprised.

I think, that currently, AMD vs INTEL is like Xiaomi or something against Apple phones.

You can get more from AMD for way less money and for same/similar performance and in many cases WAY better performance than you can get from INTEL. I also remember when Intel was like 10% better and everyone went crazy "See, Intel best ever" but Intel was like 900$ and AMD was 600$ or some crap like that.

So, why would I build a PC that can run RDR2 on mega ultra high and pay 5k (example number, not gonna Google now) when I can buy the same specifications and pay 2-3k and have literally same FPS, why? Because for what we use our computers, that 10% difference they claim for Intel will never be reached as it only counts in like, rendering 100 gb file and 10% means few hours less, but 10% on games is unnoticable.

AMD was great 20 years ago as a lower costs option plus the ability to handle overclocking the chip. They performed well.

Jackal yes & no, I got it retail at £1,500 rather scalped on eBay but literally two weeks later the price dropped to £1,200.

My first gaming PC had an Intel processor but for my nextr build there was a notciable price difference between Intel and AMD even though the performance was somewhat the same.
So I've decided to go with AMD this time

Still using Intel Core i7 6700K I got 6 years ago. My next processor is likely to be from AMD, hopefully when Zen 4 is out.
