So if you want to look at psychology and the victim complex, you need only look into a mirror.

If you're going to mail someone who is new off the boat, make it original. Make sure it's punctuated and spelled correctly as the first impression you make is the lasting one, and those things do tend to matter. Take the time to get to know someone before offering an invitation, and if they decline, don't take it personally as some sort of affront.

I'm not going to get into the member whoring debate, because City Hall's stance on this was clear when Deimne meant to rectify the problem way back when.

What I would say on the issue of respect, is that the rank a person holds is meant to be indicative of the qualities they possess and as a result that should merit your respect. A "random Capo" should still be a Capo and thus someone who has made their bones, made their oath and is a man of honour. There is no defense of them being "random" or "unknown", because by holding the rank that they do should mean they conform to a necessary standard. This hierarchical structure is an important concept within the mafia.

Whether the ranks still hold their true merits however, is another question entirely.
