Respect for the Dead Started by: Curtis on Mar 14, '15 15:36

Just a couple of points here James

Granted, disgracing someone’s coffin isn’t appreciated in popular religions, but do we forget that this world of ours is in realm of Mafiosi and not a religious one?

No one ever said it was anything to do with religion in the first place, we should all be grown up enough and have at least a shred of common decency wouldn't you agree?, no matter what walk of life you come from disrespecting anyone at a funeral is severely frowned upon why? because it's tasteless offensive and quite frankly immature.

This having said brings me to the second question : how should someone interpret an unspoken rule?”

I wouldn't so much as even call it an unwritten rule as I have stated already it's common decency, yes we are all blood thirsty power hungry mobsters but do we stop becoming human do we lose all respect for our values?, NO! we all know what is and isn't acceptable.

I think, with this speech made by Godfather Curtis, that this unwritten rule has become a written one indeed.

This rule has been in place long, long, long before Curtis made this announcement. People referring it to as unwritten, as if to find some loophole to justify it in this situation sound very foolish. If you want to label it an unwritten law, it is only because it is governed by the Mafia and the criminals within in, as opposed to City Hall or the Gods. And while you can argue the fact that LA is a lawless town, funerals are not city specific.

I am truly amazed that this concept is so hard to grasp. It is not a difficult one.

I never said an unwritten word shouldn't be respected, I only said that this rule (which I know among others) is as old as this world of ours.

This rule has been in place long, long, long before Curtis made this announcement.

Didn't I say that?

People referring it to as unwritten, as if to find some loophole to justify it in this situation sound very foolish

You are taking this out of its context. I never said it serves as a loophole to justify stupidity.

Also, I do not support such behaviour as BlackBlack showed before us all.
Not even the slightest.

I only wanted to show you a glance of his perspective so you'd understand his way of thinking.
Understanding something is NOT the same as agreeing to it as much as it doesn't mean it should be codoned.

The concept isn't hard to grasp at all. It's just that not each and every member of this world of ours has knowledge of the concept.

Maybe the upper structures should consider making an elaborate thread concerning this and other concepts, unspoken, unwritten, but clearly not known to all.

The reactions on my post are again steering into the same direction as it has before.
I don't claim one should deviate from their meaning or believe.

I only ask that they would state a clear set of rules for all the new arrivals that really are new, as in they do not have any ancestory in our world.

No one ever said it was anything to do with religion in the first place

Actually, someone has, not literaly, but still.
Maybe I read unwillingly between the lines.

I think, with this speech made by Godfather Curtis, that this unwritten rule has become a written one indeed.

Indeed. But fact of the matter is that the situation has been dealth with before it was actually written.

I just want to add that I do not write this in any offence nor do I question any action that has been taken.
The only purpose is to make it something to think about, maybe even taking into consideration to implement what I've suggested.

It was an unwritten rule before BlackBlack's death, but I do not think that should matter. Should someone really be allowed to be a leader, or be allowed to live at all if they're disrespectful in a funeral? If you can't grasp that funerals should be a place only to pay respects then you're just a fool. Maybe BlackBlack did think painting or splattering a casket with paint is a sign of respect, in that case he was wrong

Don't misunderstand me, Goto, I am against the way he acted aswel.

I truly can't believe that so many of you have come out here and tried to defend the practice of harassing and humiliating the dead, you should all be ashamed of yourselves. This isn't some new principle in our world, this is hardly "A new rule" that was applied retroactively.

There shouldn't need to be a rule that forces you at act like a respectable mafioso. BlackBlack has had a long lineage in our community and truly he should have known better, perhaps the blood-lust of slaying two leaders on the doors of their headquarters blurred the mans vision. There is truly no excusing the behavior.

Whilst LA has been declared the Wild West, it doesn't afford you the right to piss and shit on whoever you like sans consequence. I'm not sure how you could honestly have believed that setting up here would offer that level of immunity. The current leadership is trying to enforce a higher standard than some of those that have passed before us. Trying to restore our community to the days where honor and integrity and respect meant something.

The new generation seem shocked and abhorred by these ideals. I suggest you speak to some of the older lines in our world and they can share with you how things worked in the good old days and maybe you will appreciate how good you have it. For the older lines complaining here, stop being so lazy and hold yourself to a higher standard

You know better and this community deserves better from you.

*Zeitgeist walks off visibly angered by the sheer stupidity of some the speakers*

Some defended BlackBlack, others didn't. There were like 3 or 4 people disagreeing with the reasons given here.

The Rock can't believe that this conversation is still going. What's done is done. Sure the Rock never personally had an issue with disrespect at a funeral, but then as Godfather Curtis said, its one of the cornerstones of our society, its one of the great unwritten rules, and no matter what the Rock believes, what you believe, what that jabroni SammyCrooks believes, what Goto believes, what that monkey's ass Bolton believes or what the man in the moon believes, nothing will ge you killed quicker than disrespect at a funeral. No matter what you think, no matter what the family of the deceased thinks, its the man with the gun that matters. Godfather Curtis and some of his advisors took offence at BlackBlack's actions, and he paid with his life. End... of... story...

There is no need to keep dragging this up again and again. Its done, finito, ended, that's all she wrote, stick a fork in it, this one is done. Should Curtis have had to reiterate the unwritten rules? No. Should BlackBlack have thought that Curtis declaration of autonomy disavowed him of any observation of these rules? As the Rock's good friend Stone Cold Steve Austin would say, awww hell no! The Rock can see where BlackBlack went wrong. He had a whole Rolling Stones thing going, and he bought into his own hype. But it is now over.

Come and say what you will, it makes no difference. When it's all said and done, and all the smoke has cleared, and the millions and the millions of The Rock's fans have finished chanting his name, the Titanic will still be sunk, Monica Lewinsky will still love her cigars, and Curtis will still have kicked the living piss out of BlackBlack.

BlackBlack's death doesn't mean we can discuss the overarching topic present here. And yes, what the man with the gun did does matter, but if we only went by that the streets would be much emptier. It's still quite fresh, the larger questions are still there and discussion doesn't do anyone harm.

TonyCapazzo stands in front of the masses. He has a puzzled look on his face. He looks out to everyone and awaits his turn to speak. Finally that turn comes. He raises his fedora a bit and slightly scratches his head.

"Well..."

He shakes his head in disbelief.

"I can't really believe what we are discussing here. Respect to the dead? Really? From the early moments I graced these shores the very first thing I was taught was respect. Respect to men of honor, to those prominent in this thing of ours and...to the dead. I am sure each and every person here or that's ever came to our shores as heard these very words at least once, have respect for the dead. As has been uttered by many before me...this is a unwritten rule."

Tony pauses for a moment then continues.

"I know there are some that say a 'unwritten' rule isn't a rule at all. The reason some rules are unwritten is because, for a lack of a better term, common sense is required. If every rule was to be written the Godfather's leading our nation would be here writing until the end of time. Regardless of the backstory of what took place in LA, what led to the death, none of it matters. It's all moot, the one thing that should always hold true IS the respect."

Tony smirks a bit.

"Let's be real here guys, we all know what type of lives we lead. We all know what we do day to day. We know exactly how much of 'upstanding citizens' we are to society, heh, HOWEVER even those who have been some of the most treacherous men or women to walk the streets have all had one common denominator. Respect."

Tony leans forward finishing up his bit.

"It's very easy. Now with the new ruling that makes it simple black and white to those who found it cloudy, I truly hope this isn't something that's discussed ever again."

With that Tony Capazzo tips his fedora and takes a step back allowing others to speak.

I personally am glad to see this. If there is one thing I can't stand is grave pissing. I don't get why people have to do. They get some high off of talking down a dead person. Its one thing I will never understand.

But I do remember reading the journals of my ancestors they said how people would just get shot for wording something incorrectly at a funeral. I would personally like to thank you for making this an official ruling. There are so many "elitist" type people that have to run around treating others very rude.
