| Pickpocketing. Expansion on a point | Started by: Scandia on May 12, '10 15:24 |

I'm sure I saw a street sweeper on their way up here so I decided to grab a corner of my own.
Some goon down the street made a speech earlier. It was pretty much nosense. But it was a reply that struck me and re-ignited an old bug bear of mine. Has this kind of speech been made before? Probably. Does that mean it shouldn't be here again? Possibly. Do you think I care? No. Not really. Suck it up. |

Personally I only pickpocket because I am nosy. I like to see what treasures await me in people's pockets. I will usually ask before doing so, so that I won't frighten the person I'm choosing and then will usually return anything I may find upon inspecting their pockets. |

Can anybody recall a recent death in regards to a pick-pocketing offense? I think that the reason many people find it amusing is because threats don't seem to be enforced, there doesn't appear to be a consequence because it appears few would want to kick up a fuss over such a small amount of money - but I understand that it's more often about principle and respect. |

I Personally belive that any associate has no reason to disrespect any buttonman in any way, including Pickpocketing. I think of PPing as a sport and its fine imo for associate to pp associates and Made and up to Pp associates and other Made plus. However any associate pping a Made or above should take a dirt nap for his or her disrespectful actions. |

Who said anything about giving someone a cement overcoat for picking someone's pocket? Can anyone here say they can remember the last time this happened? Death shouldn't be a punishment for this, possibly some compensation and an apology. Although if the person doesn't learn from their mistakes then maybe a swim with the fishes is needed, but only in the case where the person as persistently gone against their leaders wishes as I'm sure most HQ's in this thing of ours mention not to pick the pocket of those who do not what their money stolen. |

Flash-Fire Im talking about when a associate pp's a Made plus without approval, this is a clear sign of disrespect and should not be tolerated. |

I mentioned death because often people threaten they will shoot thieves. |

The threats make me laugh the most. Talk of shooting PPers will only make my pick your pocket to see how you react. I pick pocket as many people as I possibly can. Its good fun for me, but I will respect the various rules in the eight cities. |

An interesting question raised. While I believe people over the rank of made man have earned their right not to have their pockets violated (should they so choose), certain cities may allow a pickpocket-friendly environment - such as Las Vegas. But that's a whole other set of circumstances - if you go a city which allows that behaviour, you accept their den's rules. Quite frankly, enforcing fines, measures, etc on such a largely perceived petty theft seems like a waste of time and resources which could be better spent elsewhere. Personally, I'd probably just steal it right back or approach them about it face to face. |

Nujabes, currently Las Vegas has no policy either way towards Pickpocketing. Any previous policies may or may not be returned, however thag would be at the choice of tue current Cl in Las Vegas as all other Cl's are no longer with us and as such their rules are no longer in effect. |

TheKing I couldn't agree more that it is a complete lack of respect but death is not the only way to deal with it, in fact I've known my ancestors to fine offenders. I'm sure Deimne remembers the time someone attempted to pick my reletives pocket and he caught them before they could get his wallet & he fined him 200k just for the attempt.
Like I say death is a bit harsh and it's unrealistic that any leader would allow a member to die for a single minor incident like this. |

I see pickpocketing as a very realistic feature of this thing of ours and could not support an outright ban. There are only a few things that really illicit strong emotional responses around here and the stealth pickpocket is one of them. As a matter of fact, as annoyed as you get being picked, I get even more annoyed at being ASKED if I can be. You either have the balls to try or you don't. That being said, I have to agree that picking the pocket of a made man should be more dangerous than it is for an associate. The problem with fines is that very few really have the power to demand payment from another man's associate even if they catch him in the act. So my attitude is, fuggit about it. Shrug. |

The reason I believe in death over fines is because a loss of money rarely teaches anyone a true lesson, while death teaches the ultimate, one which the deceased's next of kin will learn from. |

I like to Pickpocket as and when I feel like it. I look at it like a sort of sport when I am bored or have some free time. Now on the matter of death for it?! Well.. death should never be a punishment for it. Just like Flash-Fire said.. an apology is plenty enough in my books. If some grumpy git is going to moan about a measly 5k then that's up to them. |

The debacle of pittying one who has been pick pocketed has always humored me. There's only one rule I go by and that is the rule of repect. I have no problem pp'ing someone that is equal or below in rank. To me, that is fair and fits within a RP standard. Secondly, is that if you have a tattoo - as many call them, do you really think anyone would run from that in this era? Next is the fact that most low life theives would have been pick pocketing because thats what they did, petty theivery. Did Don's and MM have to earn a quick buck that way? - No.
Last but not least is that there's too many variables to be considered when trying to regulate something as harmless as this. If your feeling's have been hurt by a someone who beat you out of a mere 5k or less and received a point for it off of your back. Then work a little harder and hire some guys to beat them up and protect your candy ass instead of inking a tattoo and expecting it to do it for you.

In the real mafia, stealing money from another mobster (made or not) was completely prohibited and was one of their rules that you were not allowed to steal from other mob members. |

I am in the real Mafia. I was under the impression you were as well, Mr. Samurai. However I am not certain I know what an attack timer or profit menu is. Interesting. As far as respect, when I am hunting for people to pickpocket, I often come across people wearing tattoos warning not to pickpocket them. Sometimes it may be a person who is, or is connected to somebody I respect greatly. I would tend to leave those individuals alone and instead go for a pickpocket-friendly mobster or an easy mark. I would be a bit embarrassed to wear a shirt warning others not to pickpocket them if I was not in a position to back up my warning, and it baffles me that others are not. You're almost asking for it when you wear these tattoos. It's only $5000 we're talking about. As far as respect, if people are pickpocketing you despite your warnings, you apparently have not earned their respect. It's as simple as that. Earn yourself some respect and I doubt people will be too quick to reach inside your pocket for your wallet Respect the city rules would be my suggestion to all thieves. And if you do not wish to be subjected to pickpocketing, perhaps you'd be best served to only do business in Cities that cater to those who are not friendly to pickpocketers. |

I will add that I think a quick fix to this may be just to change the verbage to say something different such as: You dropped (x amount of money) and XXX just took off with it! |
