You can investigate anything you want, I'm self governing and operate out of a sovereign compound on the geographic north pole (which sits in international waters by the way, so no single country's laws apply there). I am also not recognised as a citizen or entity of any existing nation, so no human laws apply to me. The only legal snags come with delivering the presents each year, when I actually have to leave the north pole. But I've gotten around that by declaring my workshop as an independent micro nation, I've also signed a series of secret treaties and the world's superpowers have granted my sleigh 'diplomatic cargo' status.
