@mahinken good shout, great book. also, if you're into dark stories, you should read mythos by Stephen Fry, it's a modern telling of some of the greeky mythological stories and is a fascinating read. |

Jean M. Auel. Earth Children Series This whole series has actual archaeological sites and human developmental history throughout. It depicts the different ways societies grow and evolve and even the conflict that happens between different societies and cultures. It follows one woman through her life and her interactions with nature and other humans. |

That sounds much too high brow for me. I prefer books where the female characters have an attitude of "if you don't feed me, fuck me, or finance me I don't give a shit what you think about me". Those are the type of stories I want to read. |

My favorite book series is called the Demon Cycle. The first book, which was a random find and I'm glad for it, is called the Warded Man. It's a great book. |
