Opening Note from the Editor

So... are the streets back? They seem like they're back- and in a big way. That's the impression that I've been getting recently, and it's backed up by the very un-scientific measure of how much stuff happens in between our editions. The few few editions I was scrambling for content- and when the new paper came out the old one was barely off the shelves. But now there's so much happening that there seem to be tons of things happening in between our editions- so much that we need to condense/eliminate stories that we would have gone more in depth about.

We at The Logan Review sincerely hope to see this trend continue.

Now, on with Issue Eight!

Deces becomes the Godfather-Chairman of New York; PaleRider rides to the Bronx

Recently, Deces ascended to the status of Godfather-Chairman in New York City. We here at The Logan Review wish to extend our heartfelt congratulations. Some highlights of well wishers include:

BrotherHec: "My very good friend. I am so proud to see you have achieved such glorious heights. I hope the absolute best four your run as Godmother and look to help you produce the best version of New York this world has ever seen."

JohnnyTorrio: "Deces is Godmother?! Deces, congratulations!!  This has been a long time coming and I would like to say that it has been an honor to watch you regrow into your new position."

Roland: "Deces, I am personally very proud to see you in this esteemed position -- you have earned it. We've worked together in the past, both having come up under Godfather Nakamura, and I take great pleasure in being able to call you my friend. I am eagerly awaiting the positive change you will bring to New York."

BrotherHec announced celebrations for this move, including competitions for: Best meme, stand up comedy, pickpocketing, a Murder Masque mystery, and a storytelling competition.

Shortly after the move, it was announced that PaleRider would be moving to the Bronx. We wish him the best as well!

Updates: Two other brief notes in the Auth/Movement Department

Tellurium announced that Bella Vista would no longer be empty, as Razor_Blade_Mario would be setting up shop there.

Bonkers has moved to the North Side of Chicago to lead that particular district, recently vacated by Deces. The Logan Review is a big fan of crewleaders who speak in the street, and we had been impressed by a previous discussion that Bonkers presented. Here's hoping that they keep up the trend!

The Logan Review Spotlight: A Philosophical Reflection

Axel hit the streets lately to ask a big question about the nature of time. With replies from only a few people so far, including yours truly, we'd love to see more answers on this subject!

What do you think time is? Want to read the responses by BCP, CamillaBalistreri, Veronia, Slash, and BrotherHec? Add your two cents HERE

Serial Killer Loose in Detroit

In a Special Local Edition of The Logan Review (found HERE) , we warned that body parts were washing up on the banks of the Detroit River- perhaps in connection with several missing persons cases. That suspicion was confirmed by a letter received by our esteemed editor, printed in its entirety below:

Katherine. I am so disappointed in you. I'd expect such bumblefuckery from the meatheads at the department, but you...

Why didn't you look? Pop open the casket? Were you afraid? Silly girl. I left the head on this one for a reason. You should have looked in Weedo's eyes one last time. Which one though, the brown one or the blue one? Bah. You know they weren't heterochromatic. If you had popped that eye out you would have found a message. I revealed so very much. Now it is lost. You don't seem the sort to skulk about in boneyards after hours digging up corpses. Surprise me Kate. Don't be scared.

You have obviously found the other eye along with this letter. A gift from me to you. Keep it. It holds no value to me. To Weedo either, not any more at least. Oh, they seemed to be attached to it at once upon a time. Like it was some great treasure. How they screamed when I harvested it. I quite enjoyed that.

You pleaded for information. I gave it to you. Only, you seemed to overlook an elementary clue. I couldn't have made it any easier for you.

So very very disappointed.

How many can you save? Your precious pathetic wastes of skin. I'm hunting them. I'm taking them. I'm turning them.

And you can't stop me.

You need to get your head together. You don't have much time before I take it. I'm saving you for last.

Catch me if you can.

Further updates will no doubt be found in the streets.

Pocket Stance

MikhailKomarov started off the most popular discussion since our last issue, by asking the following question:

Comrades, debates on pickpocketing have happened time and time again, but this is not a question of the act itself, but the presence or absence of responsibility to state your preferences. Why would I be displaying a public stance stating whether or not I'll be ok with you robbing me and what my reaction might be? This man who tried to rob me said that because I didn't have a stance in my profile, I should be a victim and just take his actions as he pleases. I shouldn't retaliate because I have no stance on picking my pockets.

How does this make any sense?

Why would I allow anyone to steal from me, and why would I have a stance posted on my chest stating whether or not I'll be ok with you robbing me? And why should anyone get upset if you're caught stealing? You are not the victim here, I am."

Here are some of the most prominent takes on this question:

Tellurium: "My honest response is that I wear a small tag on my suit to make my position clear to avoid disputes or confusion over actions or reactions such as you have experienced. If not made clear this conversations / retaliations can be protracted and sometimes dangerous if one might take a real offence - I choose to make my position clear therefore freeing my time up to get on with the good stuff in this world of ours. This is a life a crime after all...."

Bonkers: I have a very simple stance on this - why would I advertise my preferences on being robbed?

On occasion I have spotted a close friend reaching for my pockets. A familiar face I do not mind, I'll clip them around the ears if I catch them and more importantly see what my bodyguards can learn from the experience - particularly if they failed to stop the perpetrator - because next time it may not be a friend and it may not just be the $5k in pocket change I carry that they want...

However, a face I do not know so well will pay the price. If they dare to touch the pockets of a Made guy it's bad enough, but a boss? They're asking for trouble. I'll drag them down a side street and my associates will beat them to a pulp, clear them out for all their cash and leave them for dead in the gutter.

FitzChivalry: Having a stance is pointless, while it may deter some people, others will most likely go out of their way to annoy you if your stance is something along the lines of "Not Pick Pocket friendly". I know that is the case for me, at least.

Vito_Scaletta: I see both sides of the argument. I see that while clearly stating where you stand on the matter should avoid problems completely and also see why people may not want to or see the point of announcing where they stand for various reasons. I feel as though it shouldn't matter whether you choose to clearly state how you feel about having your pocket picked or not. I know people who make it known that they prefer people stay out of their pockets, and some of those same people get their pockets picked regularly. Therefore I feel as though it doesn't really matter since not everyone will respect your stance in the first place and those that don't who are seen usually get mugged anyway.

OriginalPratster: If someone wants to take the risk of diving around in your pockets, they have to be willing to accept whatever consequences come their way. To say you have to take it just because your opinion of it is not evidently displayed, is moronic. In reality, any reaction that is less than turning around and shooting the guy in the head, should leave them feeling they got off lightly.

How to react when "new blood" lies?

FitzChivalry brings a thoroughly interesting question to the streets- and a warning, for those unfamiliar with the scenario. What should a leader do when someone presents themselves as being brand new to our shores, but is obviously lying?

Mr. Chivalry submitted that death is the penalty.

Space-Pole contributed and questioned:

I feel i am more proactive in trying to understand they why's rather than instantly thinking they are up to no god, i think that might be a step backwards. We should be embracing and trying to understand why they take this evasive action, if im honest it intrigues me more than anything. We are not at a place where you cant be who you want to be. As a community we have a much higher tolerance for issues.  Its not like we are forcing people underground.

It does however pose a few underlying questions; Why do people still feel they need to practice this type or behavior? Does people pretending to be new to this world instantly equal trouble, or are they just trying for a fresh start?

One thing to note is that many leaders stated the need for a fresh start. Disorder, however, took a different stance, proclaming that

I don't deal with bullshit. All I ever ask is that someone is straight with me, right off the bat. I want to know who their ancestors were, I want all the cards on the table right at the start. I've never asked anyone to broadcast their lineage to everyone, just to me. I'm perfectly happy to protect someone's identity so long as they are on the level with me. If they can't give me that level of honesty and respect, I won't give it back.

Why not share you what you think? The discussion is found HERE

A delivery guy comes by to pick up a box of the latest edition to The Logan Review. He looks a little shady, most likely a low level civilian yet to fully turn onto the path of gangsterhood. With a honk of the horn the ford ute starts again and putts away, intent on dropping some off to a certain comic book store in a certain city of sin.

Another week and yet another great review. You're right, the streets are a hive of activity and its quite brilliant to bare witness too. Its great to see people dropping in and out of that VIP list, i suppose its a measure of people really trying their hardest to get onto it. Its very much a sign of the times.

Keep up the excellent work KateLogan and everyone who gets their names mentioned, long may it continue.

Your accountant makes note that $250,000 has been wired to KateLogan from your account. The note "Logan Review" was included.

Ahh, another week in review is here already. You guys do a great job keeping the world informed on the important bits of news in the week for those who don't pay attention to everything that goes on, and you put a refreshing take on it and make it easy to keep updated. Excellent work boss. I already can't wait for next week's issue.

Vito sips his morning coffee as he buys two copies of the paper and goes off to read it again.

Mikhail noticed the new newspaper hit the stands. Every week there has been new stories about whats going around our country. This time, Mikhail was somewhat surprised his speech made it into the the news. He was definitely ecstatic about the recognition Don KateLogan gave to him.

"What a wonder newest issue of the paper. Thank you for addressing and recognizing my speech Don Kate. I really appreciate the short bit in the paper."

"Another week, and not a single mention of me?" she asks raising an eyebrow. "I'm starting to think you're playing favorites." she told Kate.

Daniella picked up the latest addition of the Logan Review, reading it in her favorite breakfast spot with a nice cup of coffee. She had been proud to hear about Godmother Deces, who she knew had worked hard to reclaim her title. Her mother had highly respected the woman and Daniella did as well, from her limited interactions with the godmother.

As usual, the paper was an excellent summary of recent events, well written and enjoyable to read. She made a mental note to send some funds Kate's way to keep the paper and her street rankings running.
