A History of Violence, Part I Started by: VinoGandor on Jul 12, '11 19:05

Finished with arranging the last piece of his display setting Vino heads towards the crowd who eagerly await the news. Hello and welcome everyone, it is a pleasure to have you all here. Today, i am going to present you something new and hopefully something that will catch your interest. As i am very interested in the history of our world and its several wars i decided to put a collection of speeches and facts together for everyone to see and read. This collection will be released in parts and hopefully a final work can be produced at the end of this series. There is enough space for everyone in the building and reading booths have been set up. A few local restaurants have agreed to provide us with food and their service. The service is free to everyone, so please enjoy your stay and have a good read!

Writer's note:
Please, ignore the odd numbers. They are wrong and should only be seen as a timeline. Furthermore as i am not very knowledgable with the past and really have no bonds towards that time, i am asking you for your assistance to clear uncertain things up and maybe help me fill some void holes in this collection. If you have anything to add, please do so and use this opportunity to help us newer people to understand our world a bit more. However note that i do not want to stir up old topics, i merely want to provide information for those who are interested in history. My only intent is to present a collection of speeches and outcomes of wars, please keep that in mind when you choose to contribute to this work. There will also be interesting speeches featured that include the topic 'war'.

The Beginning

In the beginning, life came to the New World. The Old World had become twisted and many sought a fresh new start. Young men and women, seeking to make their fortune, arrived simultaneously and began to accumulate wealth and power. Vicious cycles of violence ensued, people rose and fell in a matter of days, or even hours. Eventually, things settled into a more familiar structure.

Sep 22, '07 - It's war time!
Sep 23, '07 - Philadelphia: Sao vs Riley
According to the streets the first war in the 'New Age' was fought out between Sao and Riley.

Sep 26, '07 - Godfathers Council
After the first couple weeks the cities decided to grant their most esteemed mafiosos the 'Godfathers Council'. It should be noted that there were only 6 Cities to be considered worthy of our world at this point.

Crewleaders, by this time, were beginning to become more powerful. More kills, more money, and more stability. But wars, back then, were not the rare final option they've become today. If a crewleader had issues with how someone ran their operation, if they felt there was a credible threat present, war was a tool that was often used. Even things like accusations of "member whoring" (which, for the young, is the process of approaching a new prospect for the family before they approach you) and lack of street presence, while dubious to prove, could ignite violence.

Chaos
Sep 27, '07 - Rogue?! shoots the City Leaders
Now this is really interesting as i can't seem to find out what really happened at this day and the following. I hope someone would be so kind as to explain what really happened.

Oct 01, '07 - DiscoDuck clears things up
Oct 01, '07 - el_cubano about the state of the game - Attention, rant!
I would regard this war as the beginning of the DiscoDuck reign which didn't last long but in my opinion still deserves a mention as times seemed to be tough back then.

Oct 05, '07 - An Act of Betrayel by Flexo
Oct 05, '07 - Paranoia by Green
I put this on here because to understand that time of our world this speech greatly helps.

Oct 09, '07 - Mafia Surviver Auth!
A very interesting idea put forth by the current City Leaders, regrettably it was never realized and didn't take place.

DiscoDuck, who had amassed one of the more powerful guns in the world at this time, killing Rhett and accidentally unleashing one of the most famous of the early leaders: Oliver_McTavish. McTavish became one of the elite powers of the day and was able to effectively realize his will in every conflict and goal. How, exactly, he met his end is controversial. JohnnyAxe appeared in the streets stating that he had shot Oliver due to a disagreement and taken control of Chicago. Rumors existed, though, that McTavish had simply transferred power and retired to live like a king in Patagonia. Regardless, JohnnyAxe's status as "top dog", however, would not last long.

Through the ravages of time, bad luck, and poor choices the legendary BadAss Inc. hitsquad that had once been mightier than any seen before had been weakened. And with McTavish gone, a well known group of associates known as "CP" from the coffeeshops made an extremely successful powerplay. Striking with precision, their first wave dealt a crippling blow to JohnnyAxe's hitsquad. Don Axe put up a valiant fight, but was unable to overcome the well planned and executed assault. CP, after tying up a couple loose ends, had emerged as the supreme power in the land. Their reign, however, was polarizing. Their supporters saw them as no different from many other previous leaders in that they worked together to achieve their goals and helped each other maintain positions of power. Their detractors saw them as hoarding power and unwilling to share. Bold new policies also split the populace, with some critiquing them as a betrayal of the old ways, and others supporting them wholeheartedly. One well known example was the concept of "references"- in which a person need the support of three current Made Men or higher to reach that esteemed rank. If that person went on to rogue, the references would die.

As CP's era of influence extended into the fourth month, a strikingly similar movement to their ascension rose against them. Another band of brothers, as CP had done before them, secretly waited and trained for their attempt to strike. They called themselves Project Mayhem. The details of what exactly happened are unclear. What's clear is this. Project Mayhem, led by Jonnie_Reese and Apathy, with assistance from others, was able to overthrow CP entirely. As the world settled from the ravaged pitch of war, once again a new era was dawning.

That concludes the first part of 'A History of Violence'. I hope you enjoyed!
Continuing with the next part, you will be able to read about the fall of Project Mayhem and the rise of Marietta.

Whilst I appreciate the intent behind this, I would strongly suggest that you either omit the details of Project Mayhem's rise to power or present them in their entirety. This was a completely unique event in the history of MafiaReturns, as it was the only one to my knowledge where the effects of a 'glitch in the system' was allowed to stand and the victims of the glitch allowed to be punished by it.

This is otherwise very informative and I like the way that you have objectively dealt with much of the past. However, given the above, I would like to add the following to prevent your description of Project Mayhem's succession of the CP leaders from being misleading.

The Project Mayhem takeover stemmed from a 'glitch' in the system which afforded superhuman abilities to people who had neither earned them, nor deserved them. It was akin to their being bitten to a spider and suddenly waking up being able to climb walls. They did not train to inherit these skills; they did nothing at all to merit the weaponry they acquired. With these powers that they had not earned, they set about dismantling a regime that was currently in place, which they achieved.

Using the cannon-like firearms they had been afforded entirely as a result of a 'glitch' and not hard work or skill in developing them, they killed the existing leaders and the majority of their families. They had next to no kills whatsoever given they were 15 days old, but had the ability to kill Dons with 90 Bodyguards, something that we all can conclude today would be entirely impossible.

As a result of the same glitch in the system, they received ridiculous defence. Guns that should easily have felled them did not do so. They missed shots that they would never have usually missed, all the while, Project Mayhem's extraordinary guns continued to find their mark.

Thus it was with unprecedented defence and unprecedented attack that Project Mayhem succeeded in removing the established families. It was the equivalent of someone turning on 'God Mode'. It was later clarified by the Gods that this 'glitch' was the sole reason that the members of Project Mayhem had succeeded and accordingly they attempted to restore the balance. They decided to do this by allowing the former CP regime to start over, with 70% of their abilities from Civilian. They did not force everyone to start over, just those who had died at the hands of Project Mayhem's glitch. The victims had to restart, whilst the beneficiaries suffered no setbacks at all.

As you can imagine, Project Mayhem had massively benefited from this glitch and now had total dominion over the world. They were reluctant to give this up and subsequently set about searching for every former CP member and hunted them down. As the CP members had only 70% of their former abilities, none of their families, none of their ranks and were now competing against established and trained families, they had absolutely zero chance of survival and died.

This was how Project Mayhem rose to power. A glitch was able to overthrow CP entirely, compounded by the Gods decision not to restore the world to how it was before or to level the playing field for everyone equally. It still remains a baffling and entirely unfair decision, which dramatically altered the course of MafiaReturns history. It was these two things that removed the CP rule - a glitch and the decision of the Gods in how they dealt with this glitch.

Other than this small discrepancy, I will be extremely interested in reading the next instalment.

This is certainly an interesting project, Mr Gandor. Congratulations. History is so important to our present world. There are so many lessons we can take from the mistakes of our fathers and their fathers before them.

I look forward to the next installment, and wish you luck with this enormous undertaking. Chronicling the history of our world must be incredibly time consuming.

Report Post Tip

I wanted to come out here and applaud you Mr Gandor. This is one of the best things our streets have seen in a long while. Keep up the great work, I look forward to future projects of yours.

This looks like it took a lot of effort, if you need a helping hand my mailbox is always opened!

Duke walked into the buidling. The aroma of fresh hot food filled the room. Duke browsed through the food, and settle with some fresh baked bread and jam. he places the bread smothered with jam onto a plate, and walked towards one of the reading booths. he spent most of the afternoon reading the paper. Duke was very impressed with the amount of work involved in ths project.

Vino thank you for reminding us where we came from. It is refreshing to know how far we have progressed. It leaves me hopeful for the future, and how much further we san go. I hope you don't mind me keeping one of these?

Duke grabbed a loaf of bread, a jar of jam, and one of the papers Vino had wrote. He left the building and tap danced down the road.

Making his rounds Vino was approached by Duke who wanted to know if he could take some papers with him.

Of course you can keep them. I hope you are able to learn something from the past and adjust it to the 'now'.

Watching Duke leave the building Vino continues to make his round and soon takes notice of a note left behind in one of the reading booths. It has some signature and a mail address on it - '~C~'. Vino wonders if he can use it for his final production as it is very informative.

Somehow this just reminds me how my bloodline was always in the wrong place in the wrong time. I can think of at least 4 examples from just whats been listed here already. Oh well.

I think that happens to everyone, RoRoG. In this life, very few of us die from old age. Sooner or later, we all end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
