| Job you wanted as a kid. | Started by: Lance on Jan 22, '21 12:16 |
| I changed my mind so many times. First I wanted to be a footballer, then I wanted to be a doctor, then I wanted to be a teacher. In the end I become a sales director (boring I know) but i guess its what ever you end up enjoying and pays the bills! | |

I wanted to work in HR. Mostly because I kept hearing that those guys were sitting on their ass all day. |

The rain hammered against the window of my cramped apartment, mirroring the relentless rhythm in my own head. I was twenty-two, fresh out of the police academy, and assigned to the dreary task of processing parking tickets. Not exactly the stuff of detective novels. I craved the thrill of the chase, the puzzle of a complex case, not the monotony of bureaucratic drudgery. One particularly dismal Tuesday, a woman stumbled into the precinct, her face etched with worry. Her name was Mrs. Davison, and her cat, Mr. Whiskers, was missing. Now, missing cats weren't exactly high priority, but something in Mrs. Davison's desperate plea tugged at me. I saw in her the same longing I felt within myself – a yearning for something more. Against regulations, I took the case. I started with the basics: interviewing neighbors, checking local shelters, posting flyers with a blurry photo of a fluffy Persian. Days turned into nights, and the trail remained cold. My colleagues chuckled, calling me "Detective Whiskers," but I refused to give up. One evening, while retracing Mrs. Davison's usual walking route, I noticed something peculiar: a small, almost invisible scuff mark on the side of a dumpster. It wasn't just any scuff mark; it was the precise height and width of a cat squeezing through a narrow gap. Following the faint trail of disturbed dust, I found myself behind a closed-down bakery. A faint "meow" echoed from within. The back door was unlocked. Inside, amidst discarded flour sacks and rusted baking trays, sat Mr. Whiskers, calmly grooming himself. He’d apparently gotten trapped while chasing a mouse. Mrs. Davison’s tearful reunion with her beloved pet was all the reward I needed. The incident didn't exactly land me a spot in the homicide division. But it did something more important. It showed me what being a detective truly meant. It wasn't about high-speed chases or dramatic shootouts. It was about paying attention to the details, about caring enough to see the unseen, about finding the truth, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. A week later, a seasoned detective, grizzled and world-weary, stopped by my desk. He didn’t mention Mr. Whiskers. He simply slid a file across my desk. It was a cold case, a missing person, unsolved for years. "Figured you might be interested," he mumbled, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. The rain still fell outside, but this time, it didn't feel so oppressive. It felt like the beginning of something. I opened the file, the faded photograph of a young woman staring back at me. I finally had my case. And I knew, with a certainty that settled deep in my bones, that I was ready. |

I know it doesn't make any sense but I remember thinking when I was a kid that it would be really cool to have a job where you just get to walk around barefooted. I get my mind there would be a big need for someone to walk around bare feet |

My dear Nanna who has since passed away always used to tell me in my teens and young adult years that when I was kid, I’d be asked this question and always used to say ‘to work in an office’. Seems I got my wish. But what kind of kid says that? |

| I always wanted some chill job or something that at least I imagine as a chill job. Like working on a remote railway station and just keep an eye on stuff, rest is chill, good salary and benefits but not too much work | |

As a kid I didn't have a specific business but I knew I wanted to own a business as I got older. Used to own an e-commerce store before covid came and eliminated all my suppliers, so I decided to shut it down. Looking for new opportunities atm |

| Growing up, my dream job was zoo keeper. How brilliant would that be. Look after and have fun with animals all day. Wouldn't feel like a job at all. Once I left school with the grades I needed it was found there were no zoos near me and I would have to relocate. This didn't appeal to me at all. So now I am only a virtual zoo keeper. | |

| I wanted to be a truck driver after seeing Big Trouble in Little China. Heard they were going to reboot it with Dwayne Johnson but I believe the project died on the vine. Probably for the better. | |

I wanted to be the coolest kid on our street. I wanted to do anything the brought me some nice shades, good clothes and executive looking women. Even as a kid I knew, the right look over the top of the right pair of aviators, would melt the heart of those beautiful ladies. |

When I was a kid, I really wanted to be an Astronaut, however i realized that space was scary as I got a bit older, and decided to become a programmer instead. I suppose being a programmer is also fun, and i get to play on computers all day. All worked out in the end I guess. |

There have been many jobs over the years that I wanted to. At one point, I wanted to be a forensic scientist. CSI did some good PR for the industry. |
